Putting your Dog’s Needs First
A grooming parlour can be a stressful and tiring environment for any dog, we therefore feel it is important that dogs are not forced to undergo a full groom if they are finding it physically or emotionally difficult.
We encourage owners to bring their puppies in for regular puppy trims as soon as they have had their full set of vaccinations, which will ensure that they are introduced gradually and positively into the grooming environment. They are far more likely to be confident when attending all future grooms once they mature.
Some dogs may find a grooming parlour environment difficult, which could be due to a host of different reasons, such as; they were not introduced as a puppy, are not regular visitors or they may have had a bad experience. It may be necessary not to complete a full groom, if they are struggling, and a programme can be created for each individual, to gradually improve their confidence and reach a stage where a full groom can take place.
For older and mature dogs, aches and pains will have a significant bearing on carrying out a full groom. Regular breaks will be necessary to allow them to rest and recover from standing for periods of time. It may not be possible to lift legs for hygiene trims or for neat and tidy clipping, although every effort will be made to produce a tidy groom, but the main focus will be hygiene, health and welfare.
Ensuring the Parlour is a Safe Space
The parlour undergoes regular checks to ensure that all risks are kept to a minimum. Weekly and monthly visual checks of the parlour and all of the equipment take place to ensure that the equipment is working efficiently and any hazards are removed. Annual PAT testing, fire extinguisher tests and five yearly electrical circuitry checks are completed by qualified engineers and electricians. And both groomer and parlour are fully insured, in the event something goes wrong. Dogs are never left unsupervised, never left unattended on the grooming table or in the bath, eliminating risk of falling or injury.
Environmental impact
The impact the grooming parlour has on the environment is of particular concern to us at Grooming Dogs. There are steps that we are taking to minimise our current environmental impact, such as; locally sourced, washing, cleaning and bathing products and re-useable equipment. We are looking into recycling rain water and solar electricity, in the longer term, to further reduce our environmental impact.

Disease and Pest Free Parlour
Providing a clean grooming space reduces any transfer of pests or diseases from one dog to another. Before your dog undergoes their groom, a general health check will take place, as it is important that all dogs entering the parlour are free of flea’s, tick’s, lice or any illness or disease that they could pass onto another dog. If the groomer has any concerns involving your dog’s health, it may be turned away, and a recommendation will be given to how best to deal with the health concern. The grooming equipment is cleaned following use on each dog, minimising any risk of cross contamination. The parlour will undergo daily cleans, as well as monthly deep cleans. It will also be subjected to monthly flea treatments, as a further preventative. All cleaning products used are licensed, veterinary standard and certified animal friendly.
